Holy Week & Easter 2020

Palm Sunday 5th April

Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey ready to face His death. It’s a great chance for us to witness to the Christian faith as we walk through the streets of our parish.

10am We begin at the Good Shepherd, Mitchley Road, N17 9HG and process to St Mary’s, Lansdowne Road, N17 9XE where Mass continues.

5pm Meet where Park View Road and Scales Road meet as we process then to the Good Shepherd for Mass.

Maundy Thursday 9th

People keep watch in silent prayer
before the Blessed Sacrament until midnight.

8pm Mass of the Lord’s Supper. On the night before He died, Jesus had supper with His disciples, washes their feet and gives them a new commandment. We follow His commandment to take bread and wine in memory of Him. At the end of Mass, we process to the Chapel, which is made out to be like a Garden, where we pray silently, coming and going as need be, in the presence of Sacrament of Christ’s Body and Blood.

Good Friday 10th

12noon Stations of the Cross at St Mary’s

1pm Solemn Liturgy at St Mary’s during which we say thank you to Jesus for dying for us, as we kiss a crucifix and gather on this most solemn day.

6pm Solemn Liturgy at Good Shepherd is the second opportunity of the day to gather in sorrow at what Jesus suffered for our sake.

Holy Saturday 11th

8pm Solemn Mass of the Easter Vigil. We begin outside St Mary’s lighting the Easter fire, from which the Easter Candle is lit. This is processed into a dark church as the Resurrection of Christ is proclaimed. The celebrations continue after the Mass with drinks in the Vicarage.

Easter Sunday 12th

10am Solemn Mass at St Mary’s celebrating with joy that Jesus is risen! Alleluia!

The light of God’s truth bursts forth.

5pm Solemn Mass at the Good Shepherd, followed by Easter Egg hunt for primary school children.
